International Financial Management

In Modules 1 and 2 you looked at the cultural, legal, and political situation in your chosen country (Kenya).  Continue to do research on the country that you wrote about in Modules 1 and 2, but now do some research on the currency and banking situation in this country.

We normally think of currency and banking risks as being something confined to third world or developing countries. But events in the past few years such as the Euro crisis or the financial crisis in the United States have shown that not even wealthy, developed countries are without risks on the financial side. So it is important for any company doing business in your country to carefully consider the risks that they face.

After you’ve done some research about financial issues in your country, write a 2- to 3-page paper covering the following issues:

  1. The currency of your country: Is it stable? Does your country have fixed or floating exchange rates? Does the exchange rate fluctuate a lot?
  2. The banking system in your country: How safe is this system? Any recent banking crisis in your country?
  3. Overall, does the financial system in your country make it easy or difficult to do business? What kind of steps would you recommend for a company doing business in your country to hedge or minimize its financial risks? Refer to at least one of the required readings from the background materials in your answer.

SLP Assignment Expectations

  • Answer the assignment questions directly.
  • Stay focused on the precise assignment questions. Don’t go off on tangents or devote a lot of space to summarizing general background materials.
  • Make sure to use reliable and credible sources as your references. Articles published in established newspapers or business journals/magazines are preferred. If you find articles on the internet, make sure they are from credible sources.

Team Analysis Report

Many teams face the challenge of flat performance; they may underperform by failing to reach their stated goals. For this assignment, you are to identify an experience where you are (or were) a part of a team, describe the team’s background, and evaluate its performance in a 3–5 page report.

Later in the course (M7 Assignment 2) you will continue to evaluate the same team’s goals, strategies, dysfunctions or failings, and recommend a team building strategy to assist in its performance.

Directions:

In 3–5 pages:

  1. Identify the team you will evaluate for this assignment. This team can be a professional work team, a community project team, or a team formed to do group work in one of your previous classes.
  2. Describe any background information on its type, stage, purpose, team members, etc. Ask yourself questions, such as:
    1. How many members are (were) in the team?
    2. Is (was) the team a temporary, virtual, or traditional team?
    3. Is (was) the team in its forming, storming, norming, or performing stage?
    4. Is (was) it a diversified team (i.e. age, culture, gender, experience/skill level, etc.)?
    5. What are (were) 2–3 of the team’s major goals?
    6. Do (did) team members’ skills and experience levels match that of their given assignments and responsibilities?
  3. Determine if all the team members are (were) enthusiastic about their tasks to achieve their end objective(s). Explain their levels of motivation.
  4. Evaluate whether the team is (was) operating in the form of a working group, pseudo-team, potential team, or a real team.
  5. Explore the team’s communication channels and discuss whether there are (were) any challenges.
  6. Identify 2–3 of the team’s dysfunctions or failings. Summarize what is (was) at stake if the team’s goals are not reached.

Your final product will be in a Microsoft Word document and be approximately 3–5 pages in length, and utilize at least two (2) professional literature sources in research (beyond the textbook). Use resources from professional literature in your research. Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov).

Your paper should be formatted following current APA standards; written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Robotics and Artificial Intelligence in the Workforce

The workforce will be changing drastically in the near future. More specifically, robots will be taking on a larger role in most organizations. First, please read and review the following two websites:

http://time.com/3605924/amazon-robots/

http://www.pewinternet.org/2014/08/06/future-of-jobs/

Next, write a paper addressing the following questions:

How do we as HRM professionals objectively determine the “value” of using robots in the workforce?  Then, discuss the problems of using robots in the workforce that should be taken into consideration by human resource professionals. Finally, make a recommendation as to how robots can be assessed and assessed and used for succession planning.

SLP Assignment Expectations

Your paper should be short (2-3 pages, not including the cover sheet, references, and assessment sheet) and to the point. You are expected to deal with these issues in an integrated fashion, rather than treating them as a series of individual questions to be answered one by one and left at that.

Effective team leadership

Effective team leadership results in a number of positive outcomes at the organizational and individual levels. Report on two such examples from your own professional experience, or use the Argosy University online library and the Internet to research two real-life examples of companies, which have successfully created a collaborative culture.

Based on your research and experience, in a minimum of 400 words, respond to the following points:

Tasks:

  • Report on two examples from your own personal experience, or, use the Argosy University online library and the Internet to research two real-life examples of companies, which have successfully created a collaborative culture.
    • Use resources from professional literature in your research.
    • Professional literature may include the Argosy University online library, relevant textbooks, peer-reviewed journal articles, and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu, .org, or .gov).
  • What conclusions about collaborative culture can you draw from your examples and research? What are the factors that made the most significant impact on these companies’ collaborative cultures?
  • Compare and contrast the leadership styles in these two companies. What, if any, are the key attributes that the leaders share?

Submission Details:

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Your response should be thorough and address all components of the discussion question in detail, include citations of all sources, where needed, according to the APA Style, and demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation

    • displays accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Discussion—The Time Value of Money

Time value of money is a very important concept in corporate finance, but it’s also important in your everyday life. In this assignment, you will have the opportunity to discuss the practical application of time value of money calculations.

Based on the readings in your textbook and your own personal experiences, answer the following questions:

  • What decisions do you make that involve time value of money calculations? Use examples and explain your answers.
  • Assume you have a mortgage with a balance of $200,000, at 5% fixed-rate interest and 20 years remaining on the loan. Would you benefit in any way from making an extra payment of $100 each month on the mortgage?  Justify your answers.
  • The present or future value calculations are dependent upon the interest rates used in the calculations.  How would you identify the best interest rate to use in a time value calculation?  Explain your answer.

Discussion—Communicating Negative Information

As you learned in the previous module, delivering bad news requires communicating honestly and directly, but also effectively. Communicating negative information or giving feedback to an employee is especially important for both the employee’s as well as the organization’s morale.

Review the following scenario:

Nancy Douglas is an assistant accountant for the hardware division of Crothwall and Associates—an IT company founded in 1997 and currently worth five billion dollars. The company conducts performance appraisals twice a year. Nancy has worked for the company for a year and a half and has received a B grade on her performance for both the appraisal cycles. After her second appraisal, Nancy had made a ten-thousand-dollar accounting mistake. Nancy takes an hour to commute to work and is a single parent. She has two children, ages three and six, and is on medication for insomnia.

Assume that you are an assistant HR manager at Crothwall and Associates. You need to inform Nancy that she has received a C grade on her performance after the third appraisal and this is her only opportunity to improve the quality of her work.

Based on your analysis of the scenario, the module readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, develop a scenario, including dialogue, for the conversation between you and Nancy in this situation. The scenario should be a properly worded communication and use communication etiquette effectively.

Be sure to give reasons for your assertions and support them with scholarly research.

Write your initial response in 300–500 words. Your response should be thorough and address all components of the discussion question in detail, include citations of all sources, where needed, according to the APA Style, and demonstrate accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation

Enacting New Taxes

Decisions related to taxes have a far-reaching impact on all U.S. citizens. Therefore, it is important to weigh the pros and cons of such decisions and ensure that they will be beneficial to the majority of citizens.

Based on your readings for the module, respond to the following:

  • When the government considers enacting a new tax, what issues need to be considered to ensure that the tax will be fair to all taxpayers? Give reasons and examples to support your answer.
  • Consider the idea of replacing the federal income tax with a national sales tax or value-added tax. Do you think this would make the system more fair or less fair? Give reasons and examples to support your answer.

Write your initial response in one to two paragraphs.

Supply and Demand in a Global Market

Answer the following questions using examples and applications from the readings.  Justify your answers using economic concepts and ideas as they apply. Each response should be between 100-200 words.

Questions:

  1. The demand for labor is said to be a “derived” demand.  What is the meaning of a derived demand? How does this concept help to determine the demand for labor?
  2. What are some of the factors that determine the supply of labor in a market? What significant factors have changed the supply of labor over the last twenty years?
  3.  How does a firm determine its prices and the quantity of labor required in the resource market during a specific period?
  4.  Why do income inequalities exist?  How are income inequalities measured? How have income inequalities changed from 1980 to the present?
  5. What is the role of the U.S. government, in terms of dealing with the problem of income inequalities?  What are the arguments, for and against, government involvement in this area?
  6. Why do nations trade?  What is meant by the concept of “Comparative Advantage”?  Could a nation be better off economically, if it practiced an isolation policy?
  7. The United States has had a significant trade imbalance for several years.  What are the problems associated with having a negative trade balance?  What can be done to correct the imbalance?
  8. How are exchange rates determined?  What is the significance of currency devaluations to the home country?  To other countries?

Remember, quotations, paraphrases, and ideas you get from books, articles, or other sources of information should be cited using APA style. Help with citing sources can be found through theAcademic Resources page under Course Home.

Support your responses with examples.

Developing an HRIS

Assignment Overview

You are the new HR Director of a well-respected company that is expanding globally. You are trying to convince the CEO to invest a significant amount of funds in Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS). The CEO asks you to show her evidence of the relationship between HRIS and efficiency.

For the HRM404 – Module 4 SLP, please create an annotated bibliography where you locate 5 peer-reviewed articles related to Human Resource Information Systems and Efficiency. An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books and/or articles. Each citation is followed by a brief (usually about 150-200 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.

Please use the TUI online library to locate and read 5 peer-reviewed articles relating to Human Resource Information Systems and Efficiency. Please cite each article in APA and include a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph for each article.

SLP Assignment Expectations

Your paper will be evaluated on the following:

  • Precision – Does the paper address the task(s) needed?
  • Clarity – Is the writing clear and the concepts articulated and synthesized properly?
  • Depth – Does the paper address each source in sufficient depth?
  • Grammar, spelling and vocabulary – Is the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary suitable to graduate-level work?
  • Citations – Does the paper use proper APA format?

Market Selection and Foreign Entry Mode

For your final SLP, pretend that an American corporation hired you to write a report on whether or not they should enter the country that you have been researching for your Modules 1-3 SLP assignments (Kenya). You have already done a lot of research on many of the cultural, financial, legal, and political aspects of doing business in your country, which you can use as part of your overall recommendation. However, you also need to consider other factors, such as the potential size of the market that your country has to offer. If your country has very few consumers, then it will not be a wise decision to enter the country no matter how strong the legal or political system.

One resource to use for your report is Michigan State University’s Market Potential Index (http://globaledge.msu.edu/mpi/2014). This index focuses mostly on various aspects of the size or growth of the consumer market in each country, which should provide some valuable information in making your recommendation. But don’t rely just on this index. Do some additional research on factors that you think make your country an attractive or unattractive market for an American company and use some of de Kluyver’s (2012) guidelines on country selection as part of your paper.

When you have finished your research, write a 2- to 3-page paper with the following information:

  1. What are the positive aspects of your country that would make it an attractive market for an American corporation? Consider all of the main factors that you researched regarding your country for Modules 1-3 plus additional research for Module 4 on market potential.
  2. What are the negative aspects of your country that would make it an unattractive market for an American corporation? Consider all of the main factors that you researched regarding your country for Modules 1-3 plus additional research for Module 4 on market potential.
  3. Overall, what is your recommendation for the American company that hired you to write this report? Do the positives outweigh the negatives? Or vice versa? Explain your reasoning.

Personal Philosophy

In this paper, you will think about nursing, as we know it today. Develop your own definition and philosophy of nursing. The focus of this paper is on the application of your philosophy on the concepts of person, environment, nursing and health. A brief description of the components of your philosophy should be presented in this paper in an organized and systematic manner. The content should flow and be easy to read. It will be graded on APA format, correct grammar and spelling.

Examine Your Barriers to Cultural Competence

  1. Respond to the prompts below in full sentences.  Be sure to use standard English grammar and spelling: One Page APA Style
  • Assess your own barriers to cultural competence.
    • Have you overcome these?  If not, how do you plan to overcome them?
    • If you do not have barriers, why do you think you do not have them?

Personality Theory Blog

Imagine you have been asked to write a research-based blog post for a human resource management website.

Write a 700- to 1,050-word blog post that includes the following:

  • Discuss one of the major personality theories and how this theory is used to conduct assessment.
  • Discuss what stood out to you about personality assessment practices.
  • Reflect on current research trends that utilize this information and how the interpretation of these findings may vary across cultures.
  • Create three insightful questions based on the readings that your audience may also be wondering, and provide responses from the research you have reviewed in relation to this topic.

Include a minimum of three credible, peer-reviewed sources in the blog post.

Format the citations in your blog post consistent with APA guidelines.

Promoting Cognitive Development

As you have learned in your readings, Piaget, Erikson, Skinner, and Vygotsky took different approaches to child development. One’s theoretical perspective influences approaches to child development. The Jacksons are a young couple living in Centervale. They have approached Keith, the child development consultant, for advice on how to promote and nurture the cognitive development of their preschooler Jasmine.

Watch the following video to learn more about the similarities and differences of developmental theories. Study of the Child: Theories of Development I, produced by Herzog, Milan & Herzog, Shanta (Learning Seed, 1997), 29:02 mins obtained from Alexander Street Press Education in Video from AUO Library.

  • Compare and contrast the approaches of each of the four perspectives (Piaget, Erikson, Skinner, and Vygotsky).
  • Explain how each theorist would approach the issue of cognitive development in early childhood. Describe how Keith’s advice to Jasmine’s parents might vary depending on his theoretical perspective.
  • What role would society and family play in Jasmine’s cognitive development at this stage of development? What cultural, psychosocial and physical influences will be seen?
  • Incorporate information learned in your readings and at least one peer-reviewed* article from the AUO library to support your conclusions.

* Peer reviewed means an article from a reputable journal, which can be found in the library. Peer reviewed indicates that other professionals in the field have reviewed and deemed it worthy of publication, in contrast to much if what we find online: someone posting something they want, without someone else verifying that their methods were rigorous enough and the study is valid.  Use your book and course lectures as your primary resources, as well as articles from our library. If you must supplement from a website, do NOT use .coms. Instead, look for .org, .gov, and sometimes .edu for more reputable sources. Never use Wikipedia or about.com.

Write a 6-7 page paper in Word format. Be sure to include introductory and concluding paragraphs in your paper, a title page and a reference page.  Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Attachment Styles

We have learned that attachment occurs due to safety needs, but what if these needs were not met? In this discussion, you will consider attachment styles and potential outcomes when conditions are not ideal for attachment, as well as the interaction between attachment styles and temperament.

Kandi is an 11-year-old girl who has lived in Centervale with a foster family, the Jacksons, for one month. She has been in foster care most of her life, having been removed from her biological parents’ care at the age of 10 months. Kandi’s parents were addicted to drugs and alcohol and Kandi spent most of her infancy in her crib or playpen, alone in her room. It is likely that Kandi was exposed to drugs and alcohol in utero. It is unknown whether, in addition to neglect, she was abused sexually or physically. These are possibilities given her parents’ addictions and presence of multiple adults in her house at any given time.

Since Kandi’s arrival, her foster parents have noted several behaviors that seem odd. Despite her sweet personality, Kandi loses her temper easily. She hugs people indiscriminately, while at the same time pushing others away. At times, Kandi avoids her foster mother or seems unconcerned with her not being in the room. At other times, she becomes very distraught and cries frantically when her foster mother goes to the laundry room. She has a difficult time interacting socially with the other children at Centervale Elementary and has only a few friends. At the same time, she clings to her teacher, constantly hugging her, and even trying to kiss her. Although she has been provided with toys, books, and games, Kandi collects odd things such as used staples or the rubber pieces left over from pencils.

Based on your analysis of the scenario, respond to the following:

  • How would you explain the various attachment styles identified based on the work of Bowlby and Ainsworth?
  • Why is it important to understand attachment styles?
  • What disruptions in attachment might be inferred from Kandi’s behavior?
  • Given her early isolation and multiple caregivers, what are some important social development stages or aspects that Kandi may have missed? Discuss concepts such as imitation, social reciprocity, and exploration.
  • How might Kandi’s temperament affect her development?
  • What protective factors might help her?

Self-Esteem In Children

In the US, a common worry of parents is whether their children have a high self-esteem.  In the age of increased awareness of the ramifications of bullying behavior (physical, verbal, and relational-aggression), as well as increased competition it is no wonder parents are concerned.  Aleksandar is a coordinator of athletic programs for Centervale.  In the past, parents have insisted on participation trophies for all kids playing sports between the ages of 5 and 11.  There is currently a debate in Centervale regarding whether participation trophies for everyone should continue through middle school as well.  Some parents think it will help with self-esteem, while other parents recall never getting participation trophies when they were growing up and think losing can be a good lesson.  Think about what you have learned in this module about physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development in middle childhood.

  1. What type of parenting style would lend itself well to creating a healthy self-esteem? Why?
  2. What would your recommendation be to the sports organizer who wonders if everyone should receive a trophy just for participating?
  3. What arguments can be made on both sides of the debate?
  4. Remember to support your responses by citing your weekly readings from the online notes and the textbook.

Write your initial response in 4–5 paragraphs. Support your statements with readings and research. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Current Issues and Trends

As an early childhood educator, it is important to stay up-to-date with current and emerging issues in the field. It is also important to be well-informed as you shape your viewpoints on these issues. For this journal, choose one of the following early childhood education issues:

  • Technology and young children
  • Obesity
  • Poverty
  • Cultural diversity
  • Universal Pre-K Initiative
  • Common Core State Standards Initiative

After you have chosen your topic, research the topic to learn more about the issue. One resource you may find helpful to review is the National Association for the Education of Young Children’s Early Childhood Education Topics (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..

Prepare: As you prepare to write your first journal for this class, take a few moments to do the following:

Write: In a Word document, summarize your chosen issue in your own words, and explain how the issue will impact your work in the early childhood education field. Your summary should be between 300 to 400 words.

Leadership Development

Leadership development is a never-ending process. As a leader in today’s workforce, it is important to grow and learn. In your paper, address the following:

  1. Define the concepts of leadership development.
  2. Describe a situation at work in which you used one or more of these practices:
  • Self-adequacy
  • Leading tasks
  • Leadership impact
  1. Why did you choose this behavior or these behaviors?
  2. What was the outcome in terms of handling a challenge in the workplace?

Your paper should be 2-3 pages plus a title page and reference page. Follow APA format, according to CSU-Global Guide to Writing and APA Requirements. Include 2 outside academic sources to support your responses. Use outside sources other than the textbook, course materials, or other information provided as part of the course materials. The CSU-Global Library is a good place to find these references.

Discussion: Diagnosing and Managing Gynecologic Conditions

Gynecologic conditions can be difficult to diagnose for a variety of reasons, including overlapping symptoms, lack of patient knowledge, or even patient fear or embarrassment about sharing information. Your role provides you the opportunity to develop a relationship of trust and understanding with these patients so that you can gather the appropriate details related to medical history and current symptoms. When caring for this patient population, it is important to make these women an integral part of the process and work collaboratively with them to diagnose and develop treatment and management plans that will meet their individual needs. For this Discussion, consider diagnosis, treatment, and management strategies for the patients in the following four case studies:

Case Study 1:

A 32-year-old African American female is concerned about increasing dysmenorrhea over the past three years. In the past year, this was associated with painful intercourse. She has been in a monogamous relationship with one male partner for the past five years. They tried to have children without success. Menarche was at age 10; menstrual cycles are 21 days apart and last for 6–7 days. The first day of her last menstrual period was 10 days ago and was normal. She denies vaginal itching or discharge. On gynecologic exam there was no swelling, external lesions, or erythema, urethral swelling, or vaginal discharge. Cervix is pink without lesions or discharge. Uterus was small, retroverted, and non-tender. Adnexa were small and non-tender. Nodules are noted along the cul de sac.

Case Study 2:

A 42-year-old African American female is in the clinic for a routine gynecologic exam. When asked, she admits to noticing bleeding in between her menstrual periods for the past several months. She has been pregnant three times and has three children. She is sexually active with one male sex partner in a monogamous relationship. During her bimanual exam, you note an irregular intrauterine non-tender mass about 4 cm in diameter. The mass is palpable abdominally. The remainder of her gynecologic exam was normal.

Case Study 3:

A 48-year-old Caucasian female is in the clinic concerned about prolonged menstrual bleeding for three weeks now. Her prior menstrual periods have been irregular for the past eight months, lasting no more than three days each. There have been one to two months when she had no menstrual cycles at all. She reports occasional hot flushes and mood swings.

Case Study 4:

A 16-year-old Caucasian female comes to the clinic concerned because she has not had a menstrual period for three months. She’s a junior in high school and active in sports. She has lost about 10 lbs. in the past two months. She is currently 5 ft. 4 in. and weighs 100 lbs.

To prepare:

Review Chapter 26 of the Schuiling and Likis text and Chapter 7 of the Tharpe et al. text.

Review and select one of the four provided case studies. Analyze the patient information.

Consider a differential diagnosis for the patient in the case study you selected. Think about the most likely diagnosis for the patient.

Think about a treatment and management plan for the patient. Be sure to consider appropriate dosages for any recommended pharmacologic and/or nonpharmacologic treatments.

Consider strategies for educating patients on the treatment and management of the sexually transmitted infection you identified as your primary diagnosis.

Post an explanation of the differential diagnosis for the patient in the case study you selected. Provide a minimum of three possible diagnoses and list them from highest priority to lowest priority. Explain which is the most likely diagnosis for the patient and why. Then, explain a treatment and management plan for the patient, including appropriate dosages for any recommended treatments. Finally, explain strategies for educating patients on the disorder.

  • Must end with a conclusion that clearly summarizes what was presented in the paper.

Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the FSB APA guidance located in the classroom.

Ethics in Criminal Justice Technology

Each advance in technology brings with it moral questions about its application in the modern world. The ability of police and other agencies to monitor what were once private conversations and communications raises serious ethical questions about the right to privacy and the government’s “need to know.” Information Technology and Moral Values (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site. explores the relationship between morality and modern technologies (Sullins, 2012). In this discussion, provide the framework for an ethical policy that protects privacy while ensuring security. What are the most important protections from the Bill of Rights to be afforded to modern technological communications?

This assignment should be 400 words. Please list references used.

Also the Guided response should be 200 words.

Guided Response: Whenever examining technology issues in criminal justice, always consider how to improve the system. When there are technological advances, security concerns are often paramount. How much of a role can/should the government play in new technology, and ethically, what are the rights of people to privacy when choosing new technology?

Punishment Versus Positive Management Techniques

Identifying good motivational techniques for use in the workplace is a crucial component of effective management. In this assignment, you will examine differences in management using techniques of punishment and positive techniques.

Research punishment used as a motivation technique using online library resources.

Using an example from your professional or personal life, describe a situation where punishment was used as a motivation technique.

Answer the following:

  • Can punishment be used as an effective form of motivation in the workplace? Why or why not?
  • Where and when is it appropriate to use punishment as a motivational tactic?

Give reasons in support of your assertions.

Write your initial response in 1–2 paragraphs. Apply APA standards to citation of sources.

Social Facilitation, Social Inhibition, and Social Loafing

As you may recall in the work of Triplett (1898), the presence of others in a bicycle race was found to enhance individual performance. This is called social facilitation (Williams, Harkins, & Karau, 2007). At times, however, the presence of others can detract from individual performance, which is termed social inhibition (Crisp & Turner, 2007). Similarly, social loafing can occur when an individual’s performance within a group decreases due to his or her reliance on others in the group (Crisp & Turner, 2007).

For this Discussion, review the media program, Week 5: The Virtual Office. Focus on the characters in the media and determine which characters displayed social facilitation, social inhibition, and social loafing.

With these thoughts in mind:

Post by Day 3 a description of the characters in the media program demonstrating social loafing, social inhibition, and social facilitation. Explain how you identified them. Then, select one of the characters and, using the current literature, explain two ways you might mitigate their behavior.

Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

Read a selection of your colleagues’ postings.

Respond by Day 5 to your colleagues’ postings in one or more of the following ways:

  • Ask a probing question.
  • Share an insight from having read your colleague’s posting.
  • Offer and support an opinion.
  • Validate an idea with your own experience.
  • Make a suggestion.
  • Expand on your colleague’s posting.

Return to this Discussion in a few days to read the responses to your initial posting. Note what you have learned and/or any insights you have gained as a result of the comments your colleagues made.

Organizational Strategy

A county health department wants to increase the number of Medicaid beneficiaries that participate in prenatal care. It knows that only 40 percent of the expectant mothers eligible for prenatal care fully use the benefit. Many of these target customers make only one or two prenatal visits and then drop out of the program. Most of these women visit the emergency room if they have problems during pregnancy, and also come to the emergency room when they are in labor.

In 5- to 6-pages:

  1. Define at least four questions you would need to ask in order to write a SWOT analysis.
  2. Write vision and mission statements for the county health department that provides services to pregnant women.
  3. Write at least four objectives for the department. In your objectives, try to address the problem presented in the scenario.

Getting a Written Statement

For this assignment, you will write a report about the best strategies for having a suspect write a statement after an interview or interrogation has been completed.

Tasks:

Use your readings, the Argosy University online library resources, and other scholarly resources to gather a list of strategies.

Create a 2- to 3-page report addressing the following:

  • On the basis of your research, discuss whether videotaping or recording is applicable to most interview or interrogation situations in which a written statement would be needed from a potential suspect.
  • Describe an example of potential pitfalls that interrogators face when attempting to have suspects make a statement

Witness Testimonies

In this question you will be asked to evaluate the testimony of four witnesses as to probative value and admissibility.

Testimonies:

  1. The witness testifies that he saw John leaving the scene of the shooting—the witness heard shooting and then saw John running.
  2. The witness testifies that he saw someone wearing a mask—the witness said that the mask did not allow him to recognize the person but the voice and the manner of walking were similar to John’s.
  3. The witness found a gun at the scene of the shooting, but did not see anyone. The witness’s fingerprints were found on the gun.
  4. The witness testifies that he overheard someone talking on the phone. That “someone” said that that he was going to the place where the shooting took place and that he had to take the gun.

Study the testimonies from witnesses given above and do the following:

  • Identify testimonies that relate to direct and circumstantial evidence.
  • Evaluate the probative value of each testimony.
  • Identify which testimony will be admissible or inadmissible and why.
